Another long interview about cycling, but this time it’s different. Cyrille Vincent is a film maker who is working on a project that’s years in the making, and absolutely fascinating. ‘Whirlwind’ is a documentary about Major Taylor that Vincent is directing.
We talk about cycling but also about filmmaking and discovering a story about a bike rider who did much more than just win races.
Major Taylor was a pioneer at a time when it was difficult to even participate in sport because of his skin colour. But he changed thinking and succeeded in cycling. Becoming a world champion is one of his many conquests but his influence extends well beyond victory in a race. He is a champion of change.
Cyrille Vincent is passionate about the subject of Major Taylor, so we talked a lot about the man and his many legacies.
